A portrait shot of my nephew. He was just under a year old when the reference photo was taken. This was an interesting experiment with texture. Especially creating skin, in scratchboard medium. It was also interesting because there were two different light sources here. One coming from the sunlight that was above and to the right. There was a window to the left that was the dominant light source. I hope I was able to capture that.
This board was a lot of fun but a lot of work!

Ampersand scratchboard 5x7

Ahhh I see now what you meant. Directional lines won't be of as much importance on the face, as what I was doing in the portrait of Jessica. I was using direction to get shape but I see shadowing does a much more successful job. Great work here! My only critique to it would be the slight flat spot on the left on his head looks a bit odd, though I'm sure that is accurate to the photo. It may have just been the angle of the shot. Again, great job!

Thank you. :) Skin is a tricky beast but I'm sure you'll get it with practice.
*laugh* Yeah, the kid has kind of a crooked head. It's gotten better as he's gotten older but he had to wear one of those corrective helmets when he was really young to help get rid of the flat spots.
